Life in the Abstract Art ExhibitLife in the Abstract Art Exhibit: Thursday, May 4th to Monday, June 26th, 2017

Glynn Visual Arts is proud to present a new fine art exhibition entitled “Life in the Abstract” which features five cutting edge, regional, abstract artists. The exhibition opens May 1st, 2017 and will run through June 26th, 2017 at the main gallery of GVA located at 106 Island Drive, Saint Simons Island, GA. The opening reception will take place Thursday, May 4th from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Abstract art uses a visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist independent of visual references in the world. Join us every Friday in June for summer fun at the Lighthouse! There will be crafts, games and activities designed for family fun. Come see and touch history by climbing 129 steps to the top of the lighthouse and explore the interactive galleries in the Lighthouse Museum.  Hofwyl Trails DayNational Trails Day Tree Identification Walk: Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 – 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Hofwyl is known mainly for its live oak trees, but dozens of different species of trees and shrubs can be found on the property. Can you tell the difference between a live oak and laurel oak? How about the difference between a magnolia and a holly? Join us for a guided hike focused on tree identification and learn more about these native species. Walk will be about 1 mile in length. Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation Ghosts and LegendsGhosts and Legends of Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation Walking Tours: Saturday, June 10th to Saturday, July 22nd, 2017

Take an eerie journey back in time at coastal Georgia’s most haunted rice plantation. As you walk beneath centuries old Live Oaks, explore the out-buildings on the plantation and a lantern tour of the main house you will hear tales of recent ghostly encounters, plantation folklore and the rich but tragic history of the Low County rice fields.

The tour will be approximately one mile in length and last for one and a half hours. It is suggested that visitors wear shoes comfortable for walking. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to make sure you have time to get to the tour. Don’t forget your bug-spray. The Art of Fire ExhibitThe Art of Fire Exhibit: Thursday, June 15th, 2017 – 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

“The Art of Fire”, a special exhibition by Richard Metz, will be on display at ArtTrends Gallery at 3305 Frederica Road on Saint Simons Island, GA from June 13th until July 22nd. The opening reception on Thursday, June 15th, from 5 to 7 p.m., will feature light refreshments, and artist meet and greet, and a presentation featuring Richard’s technique of painting with fire. Richard graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta with a degree in Graphic Design. After college, he moved back to his island home seeking the inspiration that started his path as an artist. Richard says of painting with fire or smoke to produce a polished image, “It was an interesting idea, to take something that is associated with destruction and use it to create.” As he revisited the idea, he found the process could be much more refined, and his excitement grew with each piece. Phone: 912-230-3807

The New York Times best-selling author of more than a dozen novels, Mary Alice has received numerous awards, including the RT Lifetime Achievement Award and the International Book Award for Green Fiction. Faithworks Birdies and Bass Benefit

Faithworks Birdies and Bass Benefit: Friday, June 23rd, 2017 – 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Play Golf and Fish – A Good Combination for a Good Cause. This unique inaugural event to benefit Faithworks features two of our favorite pastimes, golf and fishing – all for a good cause. Teams compete in a full day of golf (4 person scramble) preceded by a fishing derby at 9:00 a.m. Teams can shave strokes off their golf score by reeling in big fish from a lake by the clubhouse. Each team will be provided a score sheet on which to record their catch. The completed score sheet must be provided to tournament officials no later than 12:30 p.m.

Music is in the air and by the sea, as Golden Isles Arts & Humanities gets ready for a great summertime concert series – Sounds by the Sea. A variety of musical offerings will fill Neptune Park from May – September showcasing the best local and regional musicians. Gwen Hughes & The Kats take the stage on June 25 and will have the audience swinging with favorite tunes from the 40’s to present day

Sounds by the Sea is presented by Golden Isles Arts and Humanities at Neptune Park on St. Simons Island directly behind the Casino building. The concerts are held on select Sundays, for maximum breezes and bug-free comfort by the ocean. The concerts take place from 7-9 p.m. and guests are encouraged to bring a picnic supper and a lawn chair or blanket to relax on. The season is sponsored by Atlantic National Bank (print media sponsor), Magic 105.9 and 104.1 The Wave (radio sponsor) and Best Western Plus (hotel sponsor.); opportunities are available for local businesses to sponsor individual concerts.

A season pass for Sounds by the Sea will be available through May 28th and are only $40. Season passes are also available for ages 6-12 for only $15. Red Hot Chili Cook-Off: Saturday March 5th, 2016 (11:30am-2:30pm)
A day of spicy fun for the entire family, the Rotary of the Golden Isles is hosting their annual fundraising event with the best of the best competing for the title of Chili Master. Music will be provided by the Stringrays. Tickets are available in advance for $5 and $8 at the gate. Details here.

First Friday in Historic Downtown Brunswick: Friday, March 4th, 2016 (5-8pm)
Visit the shops, galleries, and restaurants of Historic Downtown Brunswick. Enjoy live music from local musicians, art openings, and food and beverage samples from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

The Georgia Elvis Festival: Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th, March 2016
The Georgia Elvis Festival will return to the Ritz Theater, Brunswick in 2016. The annual event is a three-day festival celebrating the life and music of Elvis Presley through live performances of his music.  It is sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., the company which controls the estate of Elvis Presley and operates Graceland. The festival features two headline shows on Friday and Saturday and is proceeded by a free opening ceremony on Thursday night, held in Mary Ross Park.

The weekend also features a three-day preliminary to the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest which is held in Memphis during Elvis Week each August. Each year between thirty and forty Elvis Tribute Artists (ETAs) enter for the chance to win over $5,000 in cash and the chance to represent the Georgia Elvis Festival in the finals. A Sunday morning Elvis Gospel music event in Mary Ross Park, Elvis performers at Brunswick’s pocket parks during dinner time, and late night After Hours parties round out the weekends events. Throughout the festival, funds are raised to help support Georgia Special Olympics. The Farmer’s Market at The Market at Sea Island: Saturday, March 12th, 2016 (10-2pm)
The Farmer’s Market at The Market at Sea Island has been so well received that it will now be held on the second Saturday of each month. This event is held in the parking lot of the Market at Sea Island and features a variety of fresh produce, artisan products, vendors, live music and food samples and takeaways.

Easter Egg Hunt at Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation: Saturday, March 12th, 2016 (1pm)
Children 10 and under are invited to bring their baskets and join in on our Easter egg hunt. There will be separate hunting areas for age groups, with games and crafts before and after the big search. The Easter Bunny will be in attendance to greet children and pose for photographs.

Games will begin at 1:00pm and the egg hunt will begin promptly at 1:30pm. More games and crafts will follow the egg hunt. Games will include egg toss, sack race, spoon race, Frisbee toss, egg decorating and etc. Imagination Playground, an innovative playground system, will also be among included activities. Imagination Playground transforms children’s lives through play, it is a breakthrough play space concept developed to encourage child-directed, creative free play.

Kids under 5 get in for free, 6-17 are $5 per person, seniors are $7 per person and adults are $8 per person.

Golden Isles Community Chorus Presents “Of Men and Angels”: Sunday, March 13th, 2016 (7pm)
On Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 7:00 pm, the Golden Isles Community Chorus, directed by Christopher Goodson and accompanied by Cameron Cody, will present a special choral concert and evening of music featuring song that contemplate heaven and earth, “Of Men and Angels,” at Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica, 6520 Frederica Rd., St. Simons Island, GA 31522. The GICC will present this concert with various selections accompanied by piano, organ, and some unaccompanied or “a cappella.”

There is NO ADMISSION for the performance, which is free and open to the public. A voluntary love offering will be taken to assist Music@Wesley, the major sponsor of the Golden Isles Community Chorus, which will help provide future concerts and services of music for the community. The church is located at 6520 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island, GA 31522, across from the Fort Frederica National Monument. Mark your calendars now, and plan to join us for this special concert. 63rd Annual Christ Church Tour of Homes: Saturday, March 19th, 2016 (10am -5pm)
The Christ Church Tour of Homes is a traditional springtime celebration in the Golden Isles. Coordinated by the Episcopal Church Women, the annual tour is the major fundraising drive of the Church for the year and benefits area charities for women and children in need.

Jewish Food & Culture Festival: Sunday, March 20th, 2016 (12pm-4pm)
The historic Temple Beth Tefilloh is hosting the 2nd Annual Jewish Food and Culture festival on Sunday afternoon, March 20th, 2016 at the Morning Star Marina (in the Courtyard near the Coastal Kitchen & Raw Bar) – just off the Causeway.

Our Golden Isles community and beyond are invited to enjoy the delicious and traditional foods of the Jewish people. Guests will also to learn more about the Jewish culture by experiencing the music and the ceremonies. Admission to the festival is free. Come Join the fun!

First Friday in Downtown Brunswick: Friday, June 6th- Take a stroll down Newcastle Street & Gloucester Street in downtown Brunswick and visit the shops, restaurants and galleries that call the port city home. There will be live music from local musicians, restaurant specials and art openings.

Georgia Sea Island Festival: Saturday & Sunday, June 7th & 8th at Gascoigne Park- This annual festival celebrates the African American traditions, crafts and food of Georgia’s barrier islands. For more information, visit their website.

The 24th Annual Golden Isles Family Fishing Event: Saturday, June 7th from 8:30am to 12pm- Bring the family out to the Sidney Lanier Fishing Pier for a morning of fishing and family fun! There will be free food and free rods and tackle boxes for all participants! The event is free of charge for the first 125 registered children ages 5-12. Second Sunday at Gascoigne Bluff: June 8th from 1-7pm- Grab your family and friends and head out to the park for an afternoon of live music underneath majestic oak trees. There will be raffles, activities for the kids and of course, lots of fun! Each month, second Sunday benefits a local charity.

“A Little Light Music” Featuring Island Garage Band: June 8th 7pm on the lighthouse lawn- Bring your friends and family, pack a picnic and enjoy an evening under the stars while listening to live music at the ocean’s edge. Admission is $12 per person. Children under 12 are free.

Full Moon Paddle & Party: Friday, June 13th 8pm- Join Davis Love III’s Paddle & Putt, Southeast Adventure Outfitters and Southern Soul BBQ for an evening of paddling and BBQ underneath a full moon. For more information, call Southeast Adventure Outfitters at 912-638-6732.

Eco Lecture Series at Village Creek Landing: Tuesday, June 17th. Bar opens at 5pm, lecture begins at 6pm- Guest speaker and Satilla riverkeeper Ashby Nix will discuss protecting Georgia’s coastal rivers with the group. Admission is $10 and space is limited. Please RSVP by visiting

Canopy of the Oaks Festival: Saturday, June 28th 10am to 10pm- Bring your family and friends for a day of music and fun at Gascoigne Bluff Park. There will be live music, kids activities, an arts and crafts market and a disc golf tournament.

St. Simons Island Antique Show: Saturday & Sunday, June 28th & 29th from 9am to 5pm- Antique dealers from across the Southeast will be under the oaks in Postell Park by the Pier. Admission and parking are free!

Fall is one of our favorite seasons in the Golden Isles. The temperatures are mild, the island is calm and there are many events to attend and participate in! Here are some of our favorite fall events around St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island!


A Little Light Music Outdoor Concert Featuring – Sensational Sounds of Motown

September 1st, 7pm. Pack a picnic dinner and enjoy an evening of live music under the stars by the St. Simons Island Lighthouse.


The Annual Shrimp & Grits Festival on Jekyll Island

The festival is September 20-22, 2013 and is located in the Historic District on Jekyll Island

The festival celebrates two favorite foods in the south – Shrimp and Grits. Cooking demonstrations, live entertainment, arts & crafts vendors, shrimp boat tours and a cook-off are just some of the activities you will enjoy throughout the weekend.


Meet The Pros & Swing For Kids Tournament

These two great events support local children’s charities across The Golden Isles.

Meet The Pros is Thursday, September 26th at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort from 5-7pm. Meet local golf pros, enjoy cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres and participate in a silent auction.

The Swing For Kids Tournament is Friday, September 27th with lunch and registration at 11am at The King and Prince Golf Course. Tickets are still available for both events. Visit for more information.


The St. Simons Food & Spirits Fest

Celebrate the bounty of The Golden Isles and our culinary talent while raising money for Hospice of The Golden Isles. Events will take place from October 1st through October 6th and will include restaurant specials, cooking demonstrations, whiskey and wine tastings, cooking classes and so much more! The resort’s chef, Jason Brumfiel will be part of “A Study in Shrimp” tasting and talk on October 4th. This is the second year for this culinary festival and tickets will sell out so be sure to purchase yours in advance!


Coast Fest 2013

Located at the GA DNR Coastal Regional Headquarters in Brunswick, Coast Fest is a great way to learn about the local ecology and meet animals that call the Golden Isles home! The festival will be Saturday, October 5th from 10am to 4:45pm.


The 44th Annual Glynn Art in the Park Fall Festival

Stroll under the live oaks in Postell Park and take in the crisp fall air while you enjoy the Glynn Arts Association’s annual festival. There will be many arts and crafts vendors to purchase art from. The event will take place October 12th & 13th.


The Brunswick Stewbilee

Celebrate the birthplace of Brunswick Stew on Saturday, October 26th. The day starts with a 5K followed by a pooch parade (complete with costumes!). There will be live entertainment, a kid zone, arts & crafts displays, an antique car show and lots of Brunswick stew to taste.


The McGladrey Classic

This PGA Tour event is hosted by island resident Davis Love III and is played on the Seaside Course at Sea Island. The Tournament includes youth activities, a pro-am, military appreciation day and a concert under the oaks with Toby Keith. This event takes place November 4th -10th.
