When looking throughout my studio, I realized that among my many paintings of landscapes were florals. I realized that these florals truly reflect who I am as an artist, and my creative journey. Artist are often told to stick with one medium, which is something I rebel against. It is the creative process that I am after, and working in both oils and mixed media provides that constant creative challenge.”

This exhibition will interest anyone who appreciates the creative process of a fine artist and the beauty of our natural surroundings. Phone: 912-268-4761.

FDR: Georgia on His MindFall Membership Meeting: FDR: Georgia on His Mind: Thursday, November 16th, 2017 – 6:00pm to 7:00pm

By 1930, when Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell wrote their famous song “Georgia on My Mind,” the state of Georgia was very much on the mind and in the heart of Franklin D. Roosevelt. In 1924 the ravages of polio had brought Roosevelt, scion of New York aristocracy, to the rural backwaters of our state for healing of body and spirit. At Warm Springs, he re-discovered his natural exuberance by immersing himself, not only in the healing waters of the therapeutic pools, but also in the lives of ordinary Georgians.

On Thursday, November 16, Jamil Zainaldin will discuss FDR’s love affair with Georgia and describe how his association with Warm Springs shaped his life and presidency. Dr. Zainaldin will also examine FDR’s friendships with prominent philanthropists, such as George Foster Peabody, owner of Warm Springs and native of Georgia, whose success in business funded major contributions to education in the South. The lecture will ask the question: “Could Roosevelt have led America through the Depression and World War II without the restorative refuge he found in Georgia?”

The membership meeting will be held at the A.W. Jones Heritage Center on Thursday, November 16 at 6 p.m. Holiday refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m., so come early and enjoy! Society members attend free of charge and the cost for non-members is $10. Registration is required. 610 Beachview Drive, A.W. Jones Heritage Center,  St. Simons Island, GA 31522

Lend Me a Tenor by Ken Ludwig- October 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30, 2016
Set in September 1934. Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is primed to welcome world famous, Tito Morelli, Il Stupendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Othello. The star arrives late and, through a hilarious series of mishaps, is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he’s dead. In a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, Saunders persuades Max to get into Morelli’s Othello costume and fool the audience into thinking he’s Il Stupendo. Max succeeds admirably, but Morelli comes to and gets into his other costume ready to perform. Now two Othellos are running around in costume and two women are running around in lingerie, each thinking she is with Il Stupendo. This madcap, screwball comedy is guaranteed to leave audiences teary-eyed with laughter. All performances are Saturdays at 8 p.m. / Sundays at 3 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain – Reserved seating available. $25 PER PERSON (desserts and beverages included)

The cabins are maintained by Cassina Garden Club, Inc. Proceeds from the Tabby & Tillandsia Garden Walk are used for the preservation and maintenance of our historic tabby cabins and the surrounding grounds.
Our Special Interest Stop will again be ACE Garden Center, which will have plants featured on the Garden Walk and other great gardening ideas.

Sounds by the Sea Featuring The Phil Morrison-Ken Trimmins Jazz Collective: Sunday, May 22nd, 2016 – 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Golden Isles Arts & Humanities is kicking off its great summertime concert series, Sounds by the Sea, on Sunday, May 22 with The Phil Morrison-Ken Trimmins Jazz Collective. The music starts at 7 p.m. by the sea at Neptune Park, St Simons Island.

“We are thrilled to have The Phil Morrison-Ken Trimmins Jazz Collective as our opening concert headliner,” says Heather Heath, executive director, Golden Isles Arts & Humanities. “They are perennial audience favorites and created the amazing Tribute to Duke Ellington concert that packed the Ritz Theatre in last year. Concert goers are in for a real treat.”

Morrison, who calls the Golden Isles home, is a well-known Boston-born bassist and composer. He has worked with such major artists as Dizzy Gillespie, bluesman T-Bone Walker, vocalist Gloria Lynne and French horn player John Clark. He subsequently joined the trio of pianist/singer Freddy Cole, Nat’s youngest brother, with whom he worked for about five years. During that time, he frequently toured Brazil. That Brazilian influence is reflected in many of Phil’s original compositions.

Trimmins completed a distinguished career with the United States Air Force Band program, which included serving as director of operations for nine touring ensembles and as musical director and bandleader for three Air Force jazz bands. He has a bachelor’s degree in music education from Valdosta State University, a master’s degree in trumpet performance from Mercer University and a doctorate in classical trumpet performance from Florida State University. He is currently the concert band director and an assistant professor at Albany State University.

Sounds by the Sea is presented by Golden Isles Arts and Humanities at Neptune Park on St. Simons Island directly behind the Casino building.
