ABBAMANIA

ABBAMANIA IN CONCERT: OCTOBER 10, 2019

In the beginning, “ABBAMANIA” was six months in rehearsals just for vocal arrangements.  Abba’s harmonies are very difficult to reproduce as ABBA recorded their vocals many times on each record to make them sound so big and full. Not only did the cast have to look like Anni-Frid, Bjorn, Benny and Agnetha, they had to sound like them. ABBAMANIA was a huge venture. They are backed by a live band and carry charts for a full symphony show.  They sold out two shows, 6000 tickets, with the San Diego Symphony.

With authentic costumes, made by the seamstress from MAMMA MIA, and incredible vocals, ABBAMANIA will take you back in time to when ABBA was on stage, live in concert.

Food vendor to be announced soon! Rainbow Island/Sea Island. 8 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m. $45/person. For more info, click here.

St. Simons Art CrawlART CRAWL: OCTOBER 17, 2019

The St. Simons Art Crawl is always an enjoyable evening for the public to come out and view new works of art while enjoying light refreshments. For this fall’s art crawl, on Thursday, October 17, from 4-7 pm, four local galleries wanted to expand the celebration of the arts. What better way than join with the immensely talented Golden Isles Youth Orchestra?  The GIYO was formed in 2005 to introduce classical music to the children of Glynn County and surrounding areas. Its goal is to offer a positive learning environment where teamwork prevails and where friendships that are rooted in a shared passion for music flourish, crossing the boundaries of geography, income, race and gender. Today, over 700 young students participate in the GIYO. During the crawl, young musicians will be playing at each of the galleries.  In appreciation, ArtTrends Gallery, Anderson Gallery, Wallin Gallery and Glynn Visual Arts will donate 10% of sales to the GIYO, and donations will gladly be accepted.  All are invited to join us on October 17th for this special celebration of the arts.

CatherineHillis

CATHERINE HILLIS EXHIBIT: MAY 7, 2018 – JUNE 30, 2018

Catherine Hillis has enjoyed the arts all her life. She won awards for her artwork as a child and was a musician in high school and college. As a youngster, she acted and modeled in print and television ads, later majoring in Theatre at the University of Georgia. She knew she would always be involved in the arts in some way.

Her journalist husband’s career took her to different cities, finally settling in the Virginia and Washington D.C. area, where she established her reputation as a fine art water color artist and a popular instructor. In late 2017, she moved to St. Simons Island, on the coast of southern Georgia, to continue her work, inspired by the low country, the beach and the spirit of the area.

Hillis works both in the studio and outdoors. During the past few years, the artist has traveled extensively to plein air competitions, fulfilling her love for painting nature and history. She is drawn to scenes that are often forgotten or neglected and finds the intrinsic beauty in them. Hillis believes that observation is her best teacher and she is known for the effect of light and movement in her work.

Hillis has won hundreds of awards and honors at competitive shows regionally and nationally. She has earned eight Signature Memberships from national watercolor organizations, was one of 40 elected members of the prestigious Washington Society of Landscape Painters and is an elected member of the Georgia Coastal Artists Guild. For more info, call (703) 431-6877.

The concept of self-portraiture is inherently linked to the concept of self-consciousness. The idea of this exhibition is about exploring how we present ourselves to the world. DesignedForMoreLaunch

DESIGNED FOR MORE LAUNCH PARTY: JUNE 12, 2018

Designed For More book is based on a natural phenomenon called a Murmuration. It is a massive gathering of starlings: one of nature’s most incredible phenomena with 100,000 or more birds flocking and flying in beautiful symmetry. With the sky as their canvas, the starlings produce art in motion, consistently avoiding collisions as the waves of their movements caress the clouds. These special formations occur only in a few locations throughout the world, leaving their audiences breathless. So why do these formations occur? And how are they possible? Recent science and video technology have been able to study Murmurations in new ways, revealing the why and the how. The implications are groundbreaking.

5:30pm – Strolling Reception and Book Signing. Open invitation to everyone! The Lodge At Sea Island Golf Club: 100 Retreat Avenue, St. Simons Island, GA 31522.

This fun and unique, fair like, tent event is going to directly address those questions and fears that everyone has, specifically focusing on our immediate coastal area putting minds at ease. We believe that after attending this first of its kind outreach, local folks will better understand how to establish an individual and family disaster plan for communication and evacuation of loved ones in an orderly manner. Set in September 1934. Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is primed to welcome world famous, Tito Morelli, Il Stupendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Othello. The star arrives late and, through a hilarious series of mishaps, is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he’s dead. In a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, Saunders persuades Max to get into Morelli’s Othello costume and fool the audience into thinking he’s Il Stupendo. Max succeeds admirably, but Morelli comes to and gets into his other costume ready to perform. Now two Othellos are running around in costume and two women are running around in lingerie, each thinking she is with Il Stupendo. This madcap, screwball comedy is guaranteed to leave audiences teary-eyed with laughter. All performances are Saturdays at 8 p.m. / Sundays at 3 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain – Reserved seating available. $25 PER PERSON (desserts and beverages included)

There is even a Night Skies category!
