Take Out for a Cause: How to Help in the Golden Isles

Tuesday, April 14th, 2020

During this confusing and uncertain time, there are still ways that you can safely contribute to our local community. Have you heard of the Firebox Initiative?

The following is an excerpt from their Facebook page:

The Firebox Initiative Inc. was founded by restaurant people for restaurant people. Griffin Bufkin and Harrison Sapp know what it means to suffer through tough times. When their restaurant, Southern Soul Barbeque, burned down on March 27, 2010 they did not know how they would get through. They quickly found out that their friends in the community and in the restaurant business would lift them up in their time of need. They have never forgotten that feeling and it is what drives their desire to help others with the Firebox Initiative.
The Firebox Initiative provides grants to employees of our restaurant community in Coastal Georgia. We help service industry employees who are in financial need because of an illness, accident or natural disaster. We will also help provide direct grants to restaurant employees who need help paying for funeral arrangements for immediate family members.

How can you help? It’s easy! All you have to do is order the following menu* items from local restaurants on the following days or simply go here to donate.

**Be sure to find the current menu on Firebox’s Facebook or Instagram pages as it rotates weekly.**

3. Sandy Bottom Bagels

New York bagels with a St. Simons zip code. Just as delicious, but served with Southern hospitality. Step 1: Assess the options. Step 2: Select your bagel. Step 3: Go crazy and add on! Provolone, chicken, avocado or even a banana pepper. Bada-bing! Get creative, they won’t judge, and neither will we.

4. Cafe Frederica

Tuesdays are for Blueberry Stuffed French Toast. Now your Tuesday will never be the same. Breakfast and lunch are both available until closing at 2pm so there’s no need to get up early, the best French Toast you’ve ever had is completely on your schedule.
