The 16th Annual A Taste of Glynn

Hosted at our oceanfront resort, this year’s fundraiser was another success! On April 3rd, 2016, 16 restaurants from the Golden Isles competed in 7 different categories. In addition to amazing food and beautiful weather, guests were entertained with live music and had the chance to bid on many fantastic prizes donated to the Silent Auction! All proceeds from the event benefit the Glynn Community Crisis Center’s Amity House, Hope House, & Outreach. Check out the winners and their dishes:

St. Simons Island Resort Welcomes New Executive Chef

The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort and ECHO Oceanside Restaurant are happy to welcome Executive Chef John Palacio to the resort. Palacio began his culinary career at age 15 at the Red Lion Inn in Omaha, Nebraska. Following 4 years of global assignments with the U.S. Marines, he returned home to follow his dream of becoming a professional in the culinary industry. His training included a 3 year American Culinary Federation apprenticeship at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles which concluded with him being awarded the coveted American Culinary Federation’s “Apprentice of the Year” in Los Angeles County.

He gained his vast experience by traversing the country in several Westin resorts from Santa Clara to Kansas City to Tuscon to Beverly Hills and even catered to the stars at the Emmy Awards in the late 1980’s. When he is not in the kitchen, Palacio can be found outside in his tomato garden or canning his tomatoes.

“Each day I want to personally meet our guests to let them know I am available to make their visit memorable ~ from a birthday party or wedding reception to their casual dining experience filled with culinary surprises. I am elated with my choice to take the Executive Chef position at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort.”

The Flavors of ECHO Wine Dinner at The King and Prince Resort

The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort’s private oceanfront Retreat Dining Room was set for the first chef’s wine dinner of the year. The event featured six exclusive Robert Mondavi wines and Chef Jarret Flake’s marvelously crafted dishes that showcased his culinary talents with a sampling of America’s most classic and treasured wines.

Local islanders and visiting guests gathered excitedly to sip chilled Robert Mondavi Private Selection Chardonnay during a brief reception before being seated for the 5-course feast. Ms. Zavi Bailey, representing Constellation Brands, narrated the Mondavi wines throughout the evening with excellent wine stories, statistics and descriptions. “Balance is the most important part of any good wine” resonated throughout her conversations and guest questions/answers.

Also present to share her wine expertise was Ms. Diane Rousakis, the On-Premise Manager of Wine and Spirits with United Distributors from Savannah. “We are so glad that The King and Prince chose THE iconic American wine producing company of Robert Mondavi. It pairs perfectly with your classic historic hotel.”

Seared Scallops with Fennel Slaw and Lemon Curd Robert Mondavi Reserve Chardonnay

One of the most influential and meaningful courses of the evening was the intermezzo. Not your predictable grapefruit, berry or fruity palate freshener ~ but instead a bright red Surprise! It transported the diners from the Mondavi ‘whites’ into the robust ‘reds’ that were to invade the dinner with full-bodied lush. It was a brilliant segue that smoothly transitioned everyone from one style of wine to the next.

Wine Dinner 6 — Osso Bucco With Aged Gouda Risotto and Baby Zucchini

Wine Dinner 7 — Dark Chocolate Dipped Black Cherries

When we sipped our final wine, the Robert Mondavi Napa Merlot, it was comforting to know that the two red wines were very carefully chosen for each specific dish. The Cabernet had the structure to stand up to the venison and the full-bodied merlot with its beautiful plumminess had the fruit-forward power to ‘balance’ the dark dipped black cherries.

As the dinner brought people together to enjoy and explore the bonding between fine cuisine and classic wines, everyone acknowledged the complement of both persuasions of the meal ~ drawing attention to the lively, evolving delicious food culture at The King and Prince.

Introducing: ECHO Oceanfront Restaurant & Bar

We are excited to announce that ECHO is now open! Resort Executive Chef, Jason Brumfiel has been hard at work preparing new menus and gearing up for the opening of ECHO Restaurant on St. Simons Island. This new restaurant located at our resort combines casual outdoor oceanfront dining with comfortable indoor seating and a beautiful new ocean view bar. The menu features fresh produce and many local products on the menu. This fun, new restaurant is the perfect place to unwind after work or to meet up with friends on a Saturday night and listen to live music. Whatever the occasion, ECHO is THE place to be! January & February 2014 Events in the Golden Isles

Winter is a wonderful time to stay, play and explore in the Golden Isles. Here are some great events happening in the next few months that we think our readers will enjoy.

First Friday in Downtown Brunswick. January 3rd, 2014 from 5-8pm: Take a stroll down Newcastle Streen & Gloucester Street in downtown Brunswick and visit the shops, restaurants and galleries that call the port city home. There will be live music from local musicians, restaurant specials and art openings.

“4 Brushes” January 7th, from 6-8pm: This ticketed reception at the Glynn Art Association on St. Simons Island features artwork from Ken Wallin, Peggy Everett, Janet Powers and Mary O. Smith. Tickets are $50.00 per person.

Mozart’s Opera,”Cosi Fan Tutte” January 26th at 3:00pm at The Ritz Theatre. The Peach State Opera will delight the audience with this English-language version of Mozart’s comedy of love and disguise.

Mystery on the River – “Murder at the Grand Gatsby Speakeasy” February 1st at 6:30pm at the Arthur Moore Methodist Museum. Enjoy delicious food and a great time at this annual event. For more information call: 912-638-4050.

The Grand Opening of ECHO Oceanside Restaurant, Lounge and Patio at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort: February 14th. “Like” their Facebook page to stay up-to-date on grand opening details.

The Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run: February 15th. Certified as the “Toughest 5K in Georgia”, runners from across Georgia and the Southeast make it a point to run this challenging 5K each year. The event benefits local cancer programs. The Coastal Symphony of Georgia Presents: Wagner. February 18th at 8:00pm at The Glynn Academy Memorial Auditorium in Brunswick. Tickets are $25 or adults, $5 for students and children.
