PAUL TAYLOR AMERICAN MODERN DANCE | TAYLOR 2: May 1, 2018
Golden Isles Arts & Humanities is pleased to bring to the Ritz world renowned TAYLOR 2, the touring ensemble of the Paul Taylor Dance Company. The performance will take place on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 7:30 pm at the Historic Ritz Theatre.
Mr. Taylor established Taylor 2 in 1993 to ensure that audiences all over the world could see his works. He worked with longtime colleague Linda Hodes to create a company that could accommodate performance requests as well as teach and provide community outreach, and he looked back to the 1954 origins of his larger company for the structure of his new company: six professionals with a particular gift for his style who perform his work throughout the world. “The dances we’re performing at the Ritz Theatre showcase the brilliance of Paul Taylor in a variety of dance styles and themes,” said John Tomlinson, Executive Director of the Paul Taylor Dance Foundation. “These dances – a combination of classics and recent masterworks – are a marriage of some of the world’s greatest choreography – performed by some of the world’s finest dancers.”
Paul Taylor is known as one of the pioneers of modern dance, his choreography noted for its physicality and grace as well as its cultural relevance. In selecting repertoire for Taylor 2, Mr. Taylor chooses dances that span the broad spectrum of his work. Several of the dances performed by Taylor 2 have been re-worked from the Paul Taylor Dance Company’s version to enable the smaller ensemble of dancers to perform them. Critics and audiences cheer as Taylor2 introduces the athleticism, humor and range of emotions found in Mr. Taylor’s work.
Make plans now to join Golden Isles Arts & Humanities for an amazing evening with TAYLOR 2 on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 7:30 pm at the Historic Ritz Theatre. Advance tickets for members are $15/adults and $10/seniors; for Non-members, they are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors. Price increases $5 the day of the show. Students are always only $5. THE ISLAND PLAYERS PRESENT PLAZA SUITE: May 4, 2018 – May 20, 2018
The Island Players Present Plaza Suite by Neil Simon and directed by Bob Boles.
Hilarity abounds in this portrait of three couples successively occupying a suite at the Plaza. A suburban couple takes the suite while their house is being painted and it turns out to be the one in which they honeymooned 23 (or was it 24?) years before and was yesterday the anniversary, or is it today? This wry tale of marriage in tatters is followed by the exploits of a Hollywood producer who, after three marriages, is looking for fresh fields. He calls a childhood sweetheart, now a suburban housewife, for a little sexual diversion. Over the years she has idolized him from afar and is now more than the match he bargained for. The last couple is a mother and father fighting about the best way to get their daughter out of the bathroom and down to the ballroom where guests await her or as Mother yells, “I want you to come out of that bathroom and get married!” For more info, click here or call (912) 638-0330.
