The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort may be known for its luxurious accommodations and gorgeous view of the Atlantic Ocean, but the available recreation and activities must not be overlooked. Some of the exciting activities include golfing at the world renowned King and Prince Golf Course, dolphin and sunset boat tours, and romantic horse rides along the beach. But, if you are looking to spend your leisure time playing tennis, then the resort’s Har-Tru tennis courts are where you need to be.

The Har-Tru tennis courts are complimentary for The King and Prince guests and feature a natural St. Simons Island backdrop, mild year-round weather, and a professional athlete on staff to help improve your stroke. Pride Evans is a seasoned tennis professional with over 25 years of teaching and instructional experience. He is a member of the Georgia Professional Tennis Association Hall of Fame and was voted the Georgia Director and Educator of the Year.  Pride offers lessons for private guests, groups, team coaching and getaways, and corporate outings. Bride & Groom in the OceanWaves lapping at the shore, seagulls flying overhead, a warm breeze kisses your skin….the aisle stretches out before you … and the man of your dreams is waiting for you right there under that palm tree at the water’s edge.  Whether your dream involves Flip Flops and a Low Country Boil or Manolos with Fine Dining, The King and Prince’s venues, extensive menus and outstanding service make the perfect backdrop for a most memorable event.

Weddings at The King and Prince are very special indeed.  I am Anne Thompson, the Wedding Catering Manager at the resort and for over 10 years now, I have had the pleasure of assisting brides in making their dreams come true in an incomparable setting.  It is most exciting – and quite an honor – to be a part of such a momentous occasion.

The King and Prince offers fantastic venues and catering for all events wedding related.
  • The Oceanfront Lawn is the quintessential beachside locale for welcome parties, rehearsal dinners, ceremonies and even dinner and dancing under the stars.
  • The historic Delegal Dining Room is an elegant spot for receptions with stained glass windows and a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean.
  • The Solarium is an intimate oceanfront spot perfect for bridal luncheons, rehearsal dinners and receptions.
  • The Retreat Room’s view speaks for itself.  Being on the second floor, you can see miles and miles of ocean!  It is lovely for rehearsal dinners, luncheons, receptions, brunches and even ceremonies.
  • The Lanier Ballroom is the largest of our venues and is made for dancing the night away!
Full details with the exact capacities of each of the venues and all of our menus may be seen in our Wedding Catering Kit.  Take a minute to check it out and be sure to let me know what questions you have rdriggs@mmihg.com.
The King and Prince provides the venue, tables, white linens, chairs, china, flatware, napkins, barware, and all of the food & beverage for our events.  Having had the good fortune to host LOTS of weddings ensures that our service staff is among the absolute best and most experienced you will find.  The waiters, bartenders, chefs and banquet captains are top notch – and believe me, these folks are capable of making or breaking any event.  We are truly blessed to have the best in the business!

Brides are able to choose vendors to provide flowers, cake, music, coordination and their own officiate.  We are one of the few resorts left who allow brides to bring in outside contractors for these items, allowing her to truly personalize her event and not end up with a cookie cutter hotel wedding.

I’ll look forward to updating the blog with real wedding photos.  I am at your service anytime you have questions so please don’t hesitate in contacting me if I may provide assistance!

King and Prince Dining

Delegal Dining RoomHi, my name is Debora League.  I have been in the service industry for 30 years and have owned or operated numerous bars and or restaurants over the years. I am currently the Restaurant Manager at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on Saint Simons Island, Georgia. I have been with this company for almost 5 years and have to say it is one of the best experiences of my career. I manage many different food outlets at this resort, including the following:

The Atrium Café is what most coffee lover’s look for in the A.M. We serve “Starbucks” Coffee, Lattes, Cappuccinos, pastries and more.

The Blue Dolphin Restaurant that hosts: a breakfast buffet every morning, which includes a chef-attended omelet station and all of your traditional favorites. An incredible seafood buffet that is offered every Friday night, in addition to the regular menu that includes our local Wild Georgia Shrimp (no imported shrimp here). Some of my menu favorites are: the Shrimp and Grits, the lemon pepper Black Florida Grouper and the New Zealand lamb chops (cooked medium). We also serve a Southern Sunday Brunch that offers something for everyone.

The Paradise Beach Bar and Grill has the only outdoor beach-front dining on the Island, where you can sit and watch the dolphins play while enjoying regular or veggie burgers, hot dogs, salads and much, much more for a great price. I spend as much time as I can in this location because it never feels like work, no matter how busy we are.

Hampton Club

The Hampton ClubOur new blog is exciting for me to be a part of.  My name is Rick Mattox, General Manager & Golf Director at The Hampton Club on St. Simons Island.  The King & Prince opened the course in August 1989.  I was fortunate to join then in March of 1990 and have been here ever since.  Through a great deal of preparation we are currently undergoing a restoration of the original design by the architect Joe Lee.  Joe designed over 275 courses with the majority in the southeast and some overseas.  We selected Billy Fuller of Billy Fuller Golf Design to oversee the project; he came highly recommended as a restoration specialist.

Closing date was April 1, 2009 with a scheduled re-open date of October 1, 2009.  With “A Quality Golf Experience” as our mission statement, we sought to make our Hotel Guests and Members feel important to us by arranging several area courses for them to play during this time.  My staff handles all of the arrangements and is on location to assist with the group bookings.   Offering outstanding service is important to me, so I wanted that to continue even though our course is not open.

Hampton has 4 holes out in the marsh, connected by 800 feet of bridgework, which take your breath away on the back nine.  With over 95% of the people who play here saying, “this is the best golf experience I have ever had”, our goal is to put it back for the next generation to enjoy.

The restoration includes replacing greens with Mini-Verde the newest in the hybrid family.  Our tees, fairways, and rough will be Celebration, a new Bermuda grass that can handle shade well.    Our bunkers will be reshaped and grassed with Empire Zoysia.  Finally we have a collar of Tif-Sport to give us four types of grasses.   It will be a real “WOW” factor to see when you come to visit our hotel and play the course.  Whether it’s your first time or seventh time, you do not want to miss it.

We will update you on the blog, but you can go to www.hamptonclub.com to view progress as work continues.  It is changing everyday!

St. Simons Island Activities

The King and Prince - St. Simons Island, Georgia

The King and Prince – St. Simons Island, Georgia

“What is there to do in the area?” you ask.  So much that I do not know where to begin.  So I’ll start with a really long sentence; boat rides and casino cruises, national monuments and historical lighthouses, unique gift shops and antique stores, art galleries and museums, golf and fishing, really cool 4-person bike rentals and Summer Waves Water park, trolley tours and a dirt track speedway, helicopter  and shrimp boat rides, skeet shooting and horseback riding on the beach and much, much more.

The village area of St. Simons Island is the center of activity and is the perfect blend of Americana and southern charm.  Once you go, you’ll understand.  At one end is a park with baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball court and the wildest trees for a vacation photo.  Numerous shops and restaurants lead you to the waterfront, where a children’s playground and fishing pier are always great fun!  Dolphins can be seen swimming here, if you haven’t seen them yet from the swings at the resort.  I have two boys, ages 8 ½ and 7 and they just love this park.  The historic Lighthouse is here, as well as the new swimming pool and miniature golf course (both scheduled to open before Memorial Day).  Relax under the shade of giant oak trees (more photo ops) and enjoy the people-watching; everyone always seems happy here, if you live here or just visiting.  The Jazz in the Park series are also scheduled here, as well as Art Shows and Antique Shows.

Adjacent to the Resort is another great children’s playground in Massengale Park, where sprawling oak trees shade the play area.  Fort Frederica also offers adult and children’s activities, including an archeological digging for the future Indiana Jones’.  My boys loved it!  For history-lovers, the island and surrounding area offer numerous historical sites, plantations and other forts.

For the adventurous families and adults, the island offers some really fun things to do.  The Lady Jane shrimp boat goes out in the Golden Isles waters and drops the nets for shrimp and lots of other cool sea creatures.  The crew will boil the shrimp on board, for the freshest, most delicious shrimp.  More great photo ops here.  The captain and crew are very entertaining and this is a memory you will cherish for some time.
