Legend surrounds you…

When you are embraced by the majesty of the Tower Room, or open your balcony door, you will feel as if you’re on top of the world; you can almost sense the legends and hear the past. By being in the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, you stand in the middle of history. You can imagine those first visitors in 1935 as they came in droves to enjoy the seaside dance club; you will sense the feel the pride and loyalty when, in the 1940s, the King and Prince served as a naval coast-watching and training facility during World War II.

And when you step outside the next day, after an amazing breakfast at The King’s Tavern, you can hop on the St. Simon’s Trolley and head to the historic Lighthouse. You can embark on a tour that will bring you into the intriguing and mystical Christ Church, which traces its origins all the way back to 1776. The magnificent wooded grounds enclose a cemetery of the earliest settlers to St. Simon’s – settlers that have tales to tell of battles, life and love. Then on to Fort Frederica for a history lesson to the extreme, where you will learn the monumental place this island holds in American history. From outdoor activities to the numerous unique shops and art galleries, a tour of St. Simons is an experience you will want for days on end.

Kindness surrounds you…

With a staff of amazing, friendly people who wish nothing more than for you to have the vacation of a lifetime, you will be constantly pampered. From massages in our Royal Treatment Cottage to relaxing with coffee in the elegant atrium lobby before heading out for the Friday Evening Seafood Buffet in the oceanfront Delegal Room - the historic centerpiece of the Resort – featuring original stained glass panoramas depicting scenes from St. Simons rich history and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean…the King and Prince staff offers nothing but warmth and charm.

Fine Wines To Enhance Your Dining Experience

Monday, June 11th, 2012

Some of the most amazing wines and spirits in the world are found at the most elegant resort in this nation. Yes, we are speaking about the King and Prince Resort, which has been highlighted in so many areas – everything from a primo golf course to spectacular dining experiences to having the most luxurious rooms and accommodations possible. Each week readers wait to be taken by the hand to the Golden Isles of Georgia to meet, greet and fall in love with even more amenities that King and Prince Resort provide their guests.

When it comes to this stunning locale, not only do the spirits of the guests and staff soar about as high as possible, seeing as that everyone is basking and relaxing in the lap of luxury while staring out at the stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, but King and Prince also goes one step further to provide the best ‘spirits’ to go along with that amazing mood shared by all that makes you wish your vacation would never come to an end.

On St. Simon’s Island, spirits are being served that are truly set in a ‘celebrity’ and ‘historical’ world, as well as being the ‘best of the best’ when it comes to taste and aroma. And not only does this particular winery we are speaking about produce new lines and breakout ‘hits’ in all wine categories, but it also has a very close relationship to a man we all honor and remember for his brilliant imagination – Walt Disney.

The Miller Ranch and Silverado Vineyards is family-owned and operated. This very prominent family is part of the ‘Disney’ group. Founded by Walt Disney’s daughter Diane and her husband, Ron Miller – who was Walt’s right-hand-man, Silverado has nothing to do with theme parks and everything to do with pure and utter taste.

Now the parents of seven, and grandparents to fourteen, Ron and Diane have retired and do not actually work the winery. They do, however, sit on the Board, taste the new brands as they come out, and truly throw their love and support behind the family legacy.

The family’s fingers are in various areas of the wine-making business. In fact, the label used on the bottles is actually a creation that came from the perspective of Walt’s great-granddaughter, Annabelle Miller. The scene is of Annabelle’s great grandmother’s home overlooking the vineyards. This pencil/graphite sketch shows the ‘down-to-earth’ feel of the artisans who work the vineyard and represents the winery’s true and utter balance between tradition and the future.

Winemaking, actually, has an amazing history; perhaps even more amazing than Disney’s own legacy. It was over one hundred and twenty years ago that a man by the name of Robert Louis Stevenson actually wrote about his journey into what was then the wild country of the Napa Valley.

Living and writing from inside an abandoned home which was situated on the barren Silverado mine site, Stevenson truly spoke about what he saw for the future. The Gold Rush was not exactly a dream come true for a great many, and Stevenson thought that mines were not only a thing of the past – but that the world of wine was the wave of the future.  Read More>>>>

COME ABOARD LADY JANE FOR A SHRIMPIN’ EXCURSION

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

Shrimpin’ aboard The Lady Jane is one of the most unique experiences in the Golden Isles. While visiting
The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on St. Simons Island, I had the opportunity to go “Shrimpin’”
with Capt Larry Credle and his crew. Little did I expect to get an education with Cliff Credle, who knew
every type of fish and critter that came up in the net. In the first catch were a puffer fish, an Atlantic
stingray, a bonnethead shark, a small sea turtle, and a pile of other interesting aquatic life. What was
fascinating to me was the variety of creatures in such a small batch. The small sea turtle was a rare and
exciting catch. It was measured, tagged, and quickly returned to the water.

Cliff Credle was our “Fish Host”.  He named each fish, told us interesting facts about them, and showed us
how to correctly hold them…which was so TOTALLY COOL!

This excursion was an experience that I will never forget.

There is much more to tell, so stay tuned for more later…

For the next few days I am enjoying a stay at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort.   Located on St. Simons Island off the coast of Georgia, this beautiful island is ranked as one of the top 10 in the country. With family-friendly adventures and amenities, there’s a potential to create many memories while visiting this island.  The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort is on the list of historic places register in the United States.

I’m looking forward to going shrimping aboard the “Lady Jane” with Captain Larry CreedleWednesday. Besides going shrimping on an authentic shrimp boat for the first time, I will learn about fishing ecology, which my 12-year-old son will appreciate learning about once I get home.  He loves anything to do with fishing so he’ll be thrilled to learn about shrimping.

Here is a brief overview of what The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort and St Simons Island, GA has to offer.

Coastal Outdoor Adventure Camps

A Morning Walk on The Beach

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

I found this great article and photos on a news site this morning and thought I would share;

This Morning I grabbed a cup of coffee and headed to the beach in front of the King and Prince Beach Resort.  It was very cloudy and drizzling a little, while I was watching the lighting off in the distance.   As the drizzle stopped, with breaks in the clouds the light got real nice for taking pictures of the day dawning and people gathering on the beach to start their day.  I have been coming to the beach on St Simons for the last 3 months now, and have found everyone to be very enjoyable to speak with.  One of the things I have noticed is there is a large piece of drift wood on the beach where people leave memories of loved ones who have passed on from this life.   In February it was covered in hearts & cards.   In March it was adorned for Easter remembrances.  Now in mid April the memorial is covered in blessings for loved ones with flags, peace signs, sand dollars with poems & blessings.  Their were several folks gathered this morning, placing remembrances of their loved ones upon the memorial.  It was a very special moment in which to start such a beautiful day, to remember those gone and the great blessings bestowed upon us.

The King and Prince’s Newly Restored Pools

Monday, March 26th, 2012

We are excited to announce the opening of our new state-of-the-art luxurious oceanfront pools!  All through the winter, the pools were renovated and we have been anxiously awaiting the finished product.  Along with the pools, we have opened the Ocean Terrace Grille for a true oceanfront dining experience.  The terrace, just steps away from the ocean, is an ultra casual dining option.

Michael Johnson, Vice-President of Resort Operations, states “The staff of our Resort has been anticipating the unveiling of this spectacular pool complex renewal for many months. We are all thrilled with the results created by our designers and landscaping artisans. Excitement is high as we eagerly await our Spring and Summer guests’ arrival, anticipating their desires whatever their age.”

The new pool complex includes three unique pool offerings surrounded by various seating options for swimmers, readers and water spectators. It will tempt all of the senses with well designed amenities:

  • Sound – ambient music system that allows guests to also enjoy the waves crashing beyond the Hotel’s sea wall
  • Smell – landscaping that embraces aromatic flowers and indigenous plantings
  • Sight – broad open sightlines for pool guests and guestrooms around the deck
  • Touch – contemporary new finishes throughout the deck, pool and outdoor seating
  • Taste – the new Ocean Terrace Grille offers a refreshing menu of Southern culinary traditions

This past weekend we had our fist visitors to the complex and they loved it!

Announcing the Winner of the October Facebook Photo Contest!

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Also, News on the November Contest & Kayaking from Maine to The Keys!

We are pleased to announce Don Gilliam as the winner of The King and Prince Facebook Photo Contest!

Dolphin jumping

Don took an amazing shot from his Oceanfront room balcony of a dolphin jumping out of the water. The photo captures what our guests have been telling us for years-that they can literally sit on their balconies and watch the dolphins play. (Just think how lucky those people on the boat were!!) Don will receive a complimentary two night stay at our historic ocean front resort.

We had a tough time choosing a winner as we loved so many of the photos that were submitted.  Michael Gowen of Southeast Adventure Outfitters Kayak-fishingFishposted two different photos from his kayak, one with the hotel in the background the other with a redfish that he had caught. It highlights some of the great activities to which our guests have access to from our hotel. Fishing, kayaking and nature tours! ….I wonder if he threw the fish back?

Laurie uploaded some photos of her family at the King and Prince. I especially love the photo of her husband and son walking on the beach. Family is such an important part of who we are and what the King and Prince represents. So many families from across Georgia come to the ocean’s edge every summer and create lasting memories here at our resort. We are so thankful that they choose our home and St. Simons Island to spend time with their loved ones.

Dad&son

I recently had the opportunity to meet an inspiring young couple- Dan and Bethany Cox. These newlyweds set out on the trip of a lifetime: To Kayak from Lubec, Maine to Key West, this had been a goal of Dan’s since he was a teenager. What they thought would take just a few months has turned into almost a year. With a stop off in Portland, Maine for the winter (I can’t even imagine trying to kayak those cold, New England waters in the winter!) they put their kayaks into the water in May to continue their adventure south. On October 26th, they made it to St. Simons island and took a rest right here at The King and Prince.

Dan and Bethany shared many stories with me….about the kindness of strangers, the lessons they have learned along the way and the amazing memories that have been made throughout their journey.

It made me wonder what memories and stories our guests have about our resort and St. Simons Island. In November we invite you post your favorite memory about The King and Prince or your favorite memory of St. Simons Island. All entries will be entered to win a complimentary two night stay for up to 4 people at our resort. To enter you must first become a fan of The King and Prince and then write away! I know my fellow co-workers and I look forward to reading about everyone’s memories.

PS-Don’t forget to become a fan of The King and Prince and check out Dan and Bethany’s Blog as well! They are in Florida and are so close to their goal of making it to the Keys!
