St. Simons Island Restaurant Guide – Part 2

Palmers Village Cafe

 

Palmer’s Village Cafe- This quaint cafe is located in the heart of the pier village. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner with a unique twist on traditional comfort food.We love that their menu highlights fresh, local produce. Their location makes it the perfect place to grab a bite after shopping in the village. Staff Pick: Try a taste of the coast with their Surf Squared breakfast. Poached eggs over a crab cake served with a roasted red pepper grit cake.

 

 

 

 

Sals Neighborhood Pizzeria 

 

Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzeria- Sal’s is owned and operated by Sal Cenicola, a former boxer from New Jersey who makes the best pizza south of Jersey! If you are looking for an Italian restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and delicious food, Sal’s is the place. Many islanders who are originally from the north rely on Sal when they want an authentic pizza. So, naturally our staff pick is….pizza!

 

 

 

 

 

Delaney's Bistro 

Delaney’s Bistro- Delaney’s has been an island staple for many years and are located just a 10 minute drive from the resort. They are open for lunch and dinner and their menu offers something for every palate-from duck breast and lamb to fresh scallops and crab cakes. The restaurant is perfect for a quiet meal with good friends. Staff Pick- Their tasso chicken over linguine is delicious. Also, if they offer scallops as one of their specials, we highly recommend you try it!

 

 

Southern Soul Barbeque

 

 

 

Southern Soul Barbeque- Although Southern Soul has been around for a few years, they have quickly become a tradition for both locals and visitors. Their succulent BBQ and delectable sides have left us coming back for more, time and time again. We dare anyone to drive by their smoker and NOT stop! Dine outside on one of their picnic tables or, call ahead and take your meal to the beach! Staff Pick- Their ribs and brisket are out of this world and you cannot leave the island without trying their fried green beans!

 

Take Your Meeting Outside The Boardroom

Let’s just say it. Meetings can be boring. Most of us have sat through a day or two of 9-5 meetings that lose our interest and make it hard to concentrate or retain the information we are there to learn. But who said that meetings had to be this way? Why not spice it up or better yet-get out of the boardroom for a bit! Here are some ways to increase attendee participation, retention of information and, have some FUN!

The King and Prince Golf Course

  • Team Building Activities: Create a scavenger hunt around town or around the resort. If you are planning a destination meeting or convention, this is a great way for participants to tour the area and connect with other participants at the same time. No time for a scavenger hunt? Save a little time for a fun game during the day. Our favorite is “Minute to Win It”.
  • Sample The Local Cuisine:  For small meetings, we recommend that you go off property once for lunch or dinner. Ask the resort’s sales team or concierge to give you some recommendations on area restaurants. Our recommendations for St. Simons Island are Crabdaddys, Delaney’s Bistro and Southern Soul Barbeque.
  • Hit The Golf Course:  Spend the morning at the local golf course (or, if you are at The King and Prince, head out to The King and Prince Golf Course). Create a little competition and have a tournament. If you don’t have time for a full 18 holes, cut it down to 9. Either way, the fresh air will do you good.
  • Get In Touch With Your Inner Chef: Spice things up for your attendees with a cooking demonstration from a local chef. It might get their creative juices flowing and the best part? You get to taste the finished product.
  • Create Some Friendly Competition: Put together a game of softball or volleyball. Give the winners a trophy and bragging rights for a year! Next year, they can fight to keep the title. It will give everyone something to look forward to for next year and a little friendly competition is good.

The King Estate Wine Tasting at The King and Prince

As summer winds down to a close and the first crisp, crinkling of fall whispers around the corner, The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort is making this fall all about wine.  The resort hosted two wine tastings and seminars Wednesday, September 28th, both of which featured The King Estate label.

King Estate Winery

King Estate Winery of Eugene, Oregon celebrates 20 years of winemaking this year, and in addition to producing quality wine, King Estate has become synonymous with producing wines of exceptional quality using organic & sustainable farming methods, meticulous fruit selection, impeccable winemaking practices, and judicious blending.  The beautiful estate of 1,033 acres is certified organic and includes 470 acres of organic vineyards, as well as 30 acres of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The Estate is crowned by the charming, European-style winery, where the winemaking process is also certified organic.

Vinny D’Agostino, Food and Beverage Director at The King and Prince, officiated the tastings which were presented by Randy Ford and Gary Lynn, representatives from the winery.  The first tasting served those in the trade locally here on St. Simons.  Those in attendance included Guy Trapani, Sommelier from Sea Island’s The Cloister; Mark Gagaliano, Wine Consultant with Harris Teeter Supermarkets; Susan Whitfield, Wine Consultant with Winn Dixie Supermarkets; Tom Delaney, owner of Delaney’s Bistro, and many other servers and bartenders from such local favorites as Coastal Kitchen, Ocean Lodge, and the Sea Island Resort.

The second tasting was hosted by Aaron Krisfalusi and Jason Degoursay of The Still and Winery (www.thestillandwinery.com) here on St. Simons.  The cost was $15 per person and included 6 wines and appetizers.  Each tasting featured King Estate wines including:

Signature Pinot Gris 2008- rated by Wine Spectator| Top 100 Wines | Wine & Spirits rated it 92 Points

Signature Pinot Noir 2010 Vintage- rated by Wine Spectator at 89 points and declared BEST BUY by Wine Enthusiast at 90 points

Acrobat Pinot Gris 2010 and Pinot Noir 2009 Oregon, both received over 90 points from Wine & Spirits AND Wine Enthusiast

Domiane Pinot Gris 2009 and Doamine Pinot Noir 2008, This wine has a very limited production, and the grape clones are from France.

Vin Glace Oregon Pinot Gris 2007 (This wine is a style of ice wine, or dessert wine)

NxNW “Wallua Benches” Vineyard Riesling 2010- featured on the cover of December 2010 Wine Spectator

NxNW Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley  2008 - Wine Spectator 95-100pt rated
