Welcoming a Veteran Back to The King and Prince

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

In the fall of 2015, we were proud to welcome U.S. Navy veteran Seth Burgess back to The King and Prince Resort. Mr. Burgess’s last visit with us was during World War II – all through the summer and fall of 1945, he was stationed on St Simons Island to attend Radar School. We were happy to be able to sit with Mr. Burgess and his wife in ECHO to chat about his time here 70 years ago.

We talked about how the rooms in the Historic Building were fashioned with bunk beds to accommodate all the Navy men here for their radar training. Some of his best memories included riding bikes around the island, listening to bands playing at a club near the Village, and a funny story about being his bunkman’s wingman because the girl he was taking on a date would only go if her friend had a date too.

While Mr. Burgess was here, our General Manager Michael Johnson took him on a tour, showing him our history wall.  He also posed for photos in front of ECHO, named to remember our naval radar connection to World War II.

Why You Should Consider a Naked Cake for Your Wedding

Monday, January 25th, 2016

Naked cakes aren’t going anywhere any time soon! They exude class with a minimalist vibe and their versatility to fit in with almost any wedding theme or color scheme is ensuring they stick around for a while.

The rustic elegance these eye catching cakes bring to the table is mesmerizing and the design possibilities are surprisingly endless. We love the simplicity of the idea that changing the flavor changes the color, it’s such an organic take on wedding cakes.

Changing the flavor to create a brown colored cake with accent middle layers of light icing and help create a more rustic feel. Whereas a lemon or vanilla cake with the same light icing will help create a more traditional wedding cake.

In case you’re still not sold on the idea of a naked cake, consider this, we’re in the South honey, and if you’re cake isn’t covered in icing, then that means it won’t melt!

Ali & Chase’s Fall Wedding on St. Simons Island

Monday, January 11th, 2016

Ali & Chase were married on the oceanfront lawn at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on St Simons Island, Georgia. Their September beachfront ceremony was followed by Mimosa toasts during their brunch reception in the Delegal Room. We love that they involved their pets in their big day and stayed in one our dog-friendly rooms!

The bride carried a beautiful white rose bouquet by island florist Cottage Flowers! Betty Ziegler made the cake and Dale Leonard Production was on on-hand for the video. Take a look at the amazing photos below from Bobbi Brinkman Photography:
